都会では高気密高断熱住宅にしないと快適には生活が出来ないかもしれませんが、田舎暮らしでは息が詰まります。
昔の生活には戻れませんし、今とは周りの環境も違い仕方がないところもありますが、私なりに少し昔の住まいについて思うところを書いてみます。

茅葺きの家は屋根の勾配が早く屋根下地に竹を縛り、その竹に荒縄で茅を何重にも編むように縛って、雨が漏らないようにしてありました。
屋根の下では囲炉裏があり、薪を燃やしても煙は茅の間から外に出るようになっていました。
その茅葺きの屋根が温度や湿度を調節し、エアコンなどない時代に調温調湿の役割をしていました。
居室の前には必ず縁側（濡れ縁）が有り夏の暑さよけ・冬の暖房のクッションの役目をしていました。

私が子供のころはエアコンなどはなく、暑い夏の夜は窓は全開にし、部屋には蚊帳を張りその中で寝ていました。
夕方になると打ち水をし窓には風鈴などをぶら下げ色々な工夫をしていました。
私が思うにエアコン等の空調機械が普及するまでの日本の住宅は、いかに日本の夏（高温多湿）を快適に過ごせるかの工夫がありました。
逆に冬の寒さの対策はあまりなかったように思います。
ただ暖房は薪を燃やしたりしてある程度は改善できたのだと思います。
次回はこれから私の目指す楽しく、快適に生活出来るような家（風と光と木の家）について書いてみます。
