或る心理学者の仮説によると、人間の能力特性は次の九つに分類される。

Naturalistic・・・自然や生物の実態・本質を感知・理解する
Musical・・・音、音程、諧調、リズム、音質などを感知・理解する
Logical-mathematical・・・論理的・数学的な
Existential・・・物や事の本質・存在を不思議がり探求する、哲学的な
Interpersonal・・・他者の感情や真意を感知・理解する
Bodily-kinesthetic・・・頭脳と体を連動させる
Linguistic・・・表現する適切な言葉を見つけ出す
Intra-personal・・・心の中にある感情・感覚・欲求を感知・理解する
Spacial・・・立体的に空間と形を視覚化する

この九つに分類される能力特性を、それぞれ独立したものと考える人もいるが、筆者の心の研究の視点に立てば、これらは、すべて、どこかで、重なり合い、融合している。人間の総体的な能力を見る場合、その特性の濃淡を見易くするための便宜的な基準と捉えれば、これはとても分かり易い。人間は、一つの能力が優れているからといって、すべてが優れている訳ではない。或る特性に於いては天才であっても、別の特性では平均以下ということはよくあることだ。
