10月初旬、友人2人と河口湖、山中湖へ出かけた。高速バスで河口湖駅へ着いたときに、ビックリ！駅前に大勢の人がいたが、日本語が全く聞こえなかった。友人と顔を見合わせて、「え！」と思い、出た言葉が「ここはどこ？私はだれ？」であった。日本人としての立ち位置が分からないままに、観光立国の宣伝、オリンピックの開催などが囃し立てられ、”おもてなし”という言葉も流行っているが、「本当に大丈夫なのかな？」と感じた。
